TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) on Thursday (Feb. 20) highlighted Taiwan's shifting investment dynamics, stating that over the past two years, the U.S. has become Taiwan's largest foreign direct investment destination.
During a meeting with the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) delegation, Hsiao noted that U.S. investments now account for over 40% of Taiwan's total foreign investment—a dramatic shift from 2010, when more than 80% was directed toward China.
Hsiao highlighted the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation between Taiwan and its transatlantic partners to maintain economic prosperity and social resilience. She noted that the U.S. has long been Taiwan's most important security partner and is now among its most crucial investment and trade partners.
Hsiao pointed to the need for adjustment and diversification in the economic and trade sectors to ensure Taiwan remains a prosperous and resilient society. She said Taiwan shares values of freedom and democracy with the transatlantic community, stressing the need for collaboration in facing challenges and actively seeking opportunities to enhance mutual interests.
Taiwan's evolving investment strategies and commitment to global partnerships underscore its dedication to economic growth and resilience in changing global dynamics.
