TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The head of the Chinese National Association of Industry and Commerce (CNAIC, 工商協進會) emphasized on Tuesday (Nov. 26) that while Donald Trump's return to the White House introduces uncertainties for the global economy, Taiwan's robust growth remains bolstered by the strong demand for artificial intelligence.

CNAIC Chairman Wu Tung-liang (吳東亮) shared these insights during a business meeting with the Executive Yuan (行政院) to discuss economic development.

In June, Wu met with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), who highlighted that the new government's top priority is economic advancement. By July, the Executive Yuan had established the Economic Development Commission (經濟發展委員會), inviting leaders from various sectors to serve as advisors. This demonstrated the government's commitment to fostering economic growth in collaboration with the business community.

Wu further noted that Taiwan benefits from the global trade recovery, with the annual economic growth rate expected to exceed 4%. He attributed this success to the effective financial management of Premier Cho Jung-tai's (卓榮泰) team.

Looking ahead to 2025, Wu predicted that Taiwan's export trade and private investment will receive robust support due to strong global AI demand, the return of Taiwanese businesses, and investments from foreign tech giants.

Wu also stressed the importance of the government maintaining a diverse and stable power supply to attract international talent, encourage financial development, and support industry growth. By doing so, Taiwan can strengthen its resilience against global economic and political challenges.

The CNAIC echoed the government's industrial policies, presenting 27 proposals and 74 specific recommendations. It expressed gratitude for Cho's attention to the business sector. Wu added that Taiwan's recent victory in the WBSC Premier12 championship exemplifies a spirit of teamwork that will aid in achieving President Lai's vision of Taiwan as an economic powerhouse.
