TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Vice Minister Lien Ching-chang (連錦漳) announced on Wednesday (Jan. 15) that the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) will review water and electricity prices through a committee that considers the domestic economy and people's livelihood. This move follows Premier Cho Jung-tai's (卓榮泰) recent directive to initiate a reasonable review of water prices, which have remained unchanged for 31 years.
The Legislative Yuan's Economic Committee (立法院經濟委員會) will examine the proposed amendments to the Statute for Industrial Innovation (產業創新條例修正草案) on Wednesday amid speculations of a potential water price hike of up to 40%, but Lien emphasized that Cho's directive is open for discussion and does not guarantee a decision.
Lien expressed concern that recent media reports might cause public panic. He assured that the MOEA will clarify related information when necessary, aiming to maintain transparency and public confidence. As the committee reviews the amendments, the public remains attentive to any developments that could impact their daily expenses.
