TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Economic Minister J. W. Kuo (郭智輝) pledged on Wednesday (Nov. 6) to reduce electricity and energy prices in Taiwan. Kuo spoke to the media before the Economics Committee (立法院經濟委員會) meeting, announcing that Taiwan's green energy supply would meet major users' demands, like Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC, 台積電), by 2030.
Kuo emphasized the six-year timeline needed to establish a robust green energy infrastructure. He highlighted the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA, 經濟部) efforts to lower energy costs, including purchasing electricity from abroad, reflecting a global trend of resource sharing.
In response to Taiwan Power Company (台灣電力公司) Chairman Tseng Wen-sheng's (曾文生) recent remarks about absorbing NT$280 billion in costs and considering slight price adjustments, Kuo insisted that the review committee must decide any changes in electricity pricing. He urged Tseng to refrain from making premature statements regarding price adjustments.
