TAOYUAN (TVBS News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) highlighted on Wednesday (Feb. 12) that the Taiwan Lantern Festival (台灣燈會) is a prime example of successful central and local government cooperation.
The Taiwan Lantern Festival (台灣燈會) returned to Taoyuan after nine years, officially opening on Wednesday. President Lai attended the event and praised Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng (張善政) and his team for their preparation.
The festival features the main lantern, "Paradise" (無限樂園), standing 18 meters tall and utilizing AI technology and motion capture techniques. President Lai believes this masterpiece symbolizes Taiwan's limitless possibilities in the coming year and the promising future of the tech industry.
He emphasized the festival as a signature event for Taiwan tourism, attracting both domestic and international visitors, and likened it to Disneyland without roller coasters.
The festival spans two exhibition areas: "Lights Playground" (光的遊戲場) at Taoyuan Airport MRT (桃園機場捷運) A19 station and "Main Lantern Exhibition Area" (主燈展演場) at A18 station, and it runs until Feb. 23.
