TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Railway Corporation (臺灣鐵路公司) announced on Tuesday (Feb. 11) the launch of a special lunch (bento) box, "Taiwanese Basil Pork" (桃喜便當-台式打拋豬), inspired by cultural integration.
The bento will be available during the Taiwan Lantern Festival (臺灣燈會), which begins Wednesday and runs until the following Sunday in Taoyuan.
The bento will be sold at several locations, including the Taipei Station South Gate No. 3 food truck, Taipei Stores No. 2-5, Banqiao Store (板橋店), and Taoyuan Store, and will be priced at NT$130.
Taiwan Railway Corporation stated that the bento reflects Taoyuan's multicultural character, allowing travelers to experience the charm of the Taiwan Lantern Festival and its cultural richness.
It noted that the "Taiwanese Basil Pork" bento box uses Thai fragrant rice paired with Taiwanese basil pork, symbolizing the fusion of Taiwanese and Southeast Asian cultures. The bento also includes Thai shrimp crackers, shrimp paste cabbage, stir-fried eggs with bell peppers, and fresh mushrooms with pea shoots.
