TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) reported on Thursday (Jan. 2) that Taiwan's western and northeastern regions will experience brief showers due to the northward movement of southern cloud systems. Keelung's northern coast and western mountainous areas might see heavier rainfall, prompting residents to prepare for potential downpours.
Meteorologists noted that daytime temperatures will rise slightly, with highs around 18 to 21 degrees Celsius in Taiwan, Penghu, and Kinmen, while Matsu will see temperatures around 14°C. The weather will remain cooler in the mornings and evenings across these regions, offering a chillier start and end to the day.
The administration also predicted isolated showers in other parts of Taiwan and Penghu, with sporadic rain in Kinmen and mostly cloudy skies in Matsu. If temperatures and moisture align, there is a slight chance of snow above 3,500 meters in the central and northern mountains.
Strengthening northeast winds will bring strong gusts of force 8 to 9 along the coastal areas from Taoyuan to Tainan, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, Orchid Island (蘭嶼), Green Island (綠島), Penghu, and Matsu. Authorities advise caution for those engaging in coastal activities.
