TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei's Department of Information and Tourism (台北市觀光傳播局) announced on Friday (Dec. 20) that Jay Chou's (周杰倫) four-day concert at the Taipei Dome (大巨蛋) generated an economic benefit of NT$1.7 billion. The concerts, held from Dec. 5-8, attracted nearly 150,000 attendees, significantly boosting hotel occupancy rates in Xinyi (信義), Daan (大安), and Songshan (松山) districts.
The department reported a 30% increase in hotel performance compared to last year. Attendees spent an average of NT$11,475 per person, excluding ticket costs, with NT$6,915 contributing to the local economy. Restaurants and shops within the Taipei Dome complex benefited, with vendors estimating monthly revenue increases of around NT$80 million.
Metro Taipei (台北捷運) recorded an average daily ridership of 44,546 at Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall Station (國父紀念館站) during the concerts, marking a 92.1% increase from the previous week. Farglory DOME (遠雄巨蛋) facilitated crowd management with six shuttle bus lines, dispatching 395 trips and transporting 4,968 passengers, effectively alleviating traffic congestion.
Taipei's Department of Information and Tourism anticipates further economic activity as singer Amit (張惠妹) prepares to perform at the Taipei Dome on Saturday. The department expects the upcoming New Year's Eve celebrations to draw even more domestic and international tourists, providing a robust boost to Taipei's tourism, business districts, and hospitality industry.
