TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market opened lower on Tuesday (Dec. 10) as global investors remained cautious amid economic uncertainties. The weighted index fell 44.99 points, starting at 23,228.26, before rebounding to a high of 23,329.01. Key players such as TSMC (台積電), Hon Hai (鴻海), and MediaTek (聯發科) experienced declines, with opening prices at NT$1,070, NT$194.5, and NT$1,310, respectively.
Nvidia (輝達) saw a 2.55% drop due to China's antitrust investigation, contributing to the retreat of major U.S. indices from historic highs. Investors are also eagerly awaiting the release of the November CPI report on Thursday and the PPI report on Thursday, which could further influence market dynamics.
Quanta (廣達) reported robust performance in its AI server business, achieving a combined revenue of NT$141.354 billion in November. This marks the seventh consecutive month of surpassing the NT$100 billion threshold and sets a new record for the same period in history. The company is on track to exceed its 2022 record of NT$1.27 trillion in annual performance.
In the U.S., the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 240.59 points, or 0.54%, closing at 44,401.93. The Nasdaq Composite dropped 123.08 points, or 0.62%, to 19,736.69. The S&P 500 declined 37.42 points, or 0.61%, finishing at 6,052.85. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index decreased by 42.46 points, or 0.84%, ending at 5,018.84.
