TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) celebrated the release of Morris Chang's (張忠謀) autobiography on Monday (Dec. 9), praising the TSMC (台積電) founder's remarkable journey. Highlighting the intriguing 26-year gap between the two volumes, Tsai likened the book's release to TSMC stocks — both worth the anticipation — and underscored Chang's enduring influence on Taiwan's tech landscape.
Tsai revealed her experiences with Chang during his six Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC, 亞太經合組織) meetings, lauding his meticulous approach to speeches. "He would always ask about the mission in detail and had high standards for speech drafts," Tsai said. She admired Chang's ability to craft concise and profound English speeches, attributing TSMC's success to his self-discipline and leadership.
Acknowledging the critical role of TSMC chips in the AI revolution, Tsai expressed gratitude for Chang's commitment to Taiwan. She shared her two-week dedication to carrying both volumes of Chang's autobiography, inviting attendees to explore the mindset of a man who has shaped Taiwan's strategic decisions. "You can see how a person standing on the national treasure mountain makes decisions for Taiwan," she remarked.
Tsai further mentioned her desire to meet Chang for coffee, meals, and conversations to learn from his autobiography-writing process.
