TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's stock market opened lower on Wednesday (Nov. 13), dropping 86.86 points to start at 22,894.91. The trading volume reached NT$8.41 billion, with the decline narrowing slightly to 63.96 points, bringing the index to 22,917.81. TSMC (台積電) faced a pullback, while Largan Precision (大立光) surged over 7%, and shipping stocks provided relative support.
TSMC opened NT$5 lower, hitting an early low of NT$1,040, down 0.95%. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. (鴻海) opened lower but returned to the flat line at NT$214. MediaTek (聯發科) opened flat and declined, reaching a morning low of NT$1,255, a drop of about 0.79%. Largan Precision rose more than 7%, peaking at NT$2,420.
Meanwhile, Compal Electronics (仁寶) saw impressive third-quarter profits, with its share price surging over 6% to NT$39.1 in early trading. Wistron (緯創), an AI concept stock, rose about 2%. The market's downturn follows Donald Trump's confirmation as the U.S. president-elect, which ended the election rally last week. Investors are taking profits and waiting for key economic data amid rising U.S. Treasury yields and market selling pressure.
