KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) announced on Thursday (Oct. 3) that classes and work would remain suspended on Friday as Typhoon Krathon recovery efforts continue.

The city government has prioritized clearing roads of fallen trees and debris to restore urban traffic and Circular Line (高雄輕軌) services by Friday.

The Education Bureau (教育局) reported that 234 schools suffered from damaged electrical equipment, fallen trees, and dislodged metal roofs, which posed safety risks for students.

Meanwhile, many evacuees have yet to return home to the mountainous areas.

Moreover, as of Thursday evening, over 87,000 households remained without power, and 300,000 faced water outages, with several areas still awaiting utility restoration.

City officials have urged the police to ensure traffic safety and management. Chen called on residents to unite and contribute to rebuilding efforts, aiming for a swift restoration of Kaohsiung's cityscape.
