TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Krathon will land near Kaohsiung on Thursday (Oct. 3) morning, unleashing destructive winds and torrential rain, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署),
Meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) highlighted the challenges in predicting the typhoon's path. He shared his insights in a column for Sanlih Entertainment Television (SET, 三立電視), emphasizing the difficulty in pinpointing the typhoon's center.
CWA advised that the typhoon's intensity will diminish rapidly, reducing to a tropical storm due to Taiwan's mountainous terrain, moisture convergence, and friction effects.
Despite the weakening, authorities cautioned against complacency, as strong winds and heavy rain could pose significant risks, particularly in southern Taiwan.
Looking ahead to Friday, the administration noted that while Krathon's winds will no longer be a primary threat, localized heavy rain or downpours remain a concern. Residents should stay informed and take necessary precautions to safeguard against potential flooding or other weather-related hazards.
