TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Renowned Taiwanese media figure Chang You-hua (張友驊) suffered a severe head injury after slipping during a walk with his wife in Taipei amid a typhoon on Thursday (Oct. 3). Chang lost vital signs at the scene, according to police reports.
Chang remained unconscious at Taipei Medical University Hospital (臺北醫學大學) after emergency personnel revived him upon arrival, the police stated.
The Taipei City Police Department Xinyi Precinct (台北市警察局信義分局) reported receiving a call at 6:30 p.m. from a woman stating her husband had fallen near Wuxing Street (吳興街). Officers arrived to find a man, approximately 70 years old, lying on the ground. The police identified the man as Chang, who allegedly lost balance after tripping over a flower bed.
Paramedics initially assessed Chang as having no pulse or breath. They performed CPR and used an AED to restore his heartbeat before transporting him to the hospital for further treatment.
Chang, a former military reporter, gained notoriety as a political commentator. He once worked as a campaign aide for former President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) but became a critic after revealing judicial cases involving Chen in 2004.
