TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) held a ceremonial handover on Monday (Sept. 2), where incoming Minister Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) pledged to enhance the ministry's performance. Chen emphasized the need to "do more, better, and faster to meet public expectations."
During the ceremony, overseen by Chen Chin-de (陳金德), minister without portfolio and minister of Public Construction, MOTC's Acting Minister Chen Yen-po (陳彥伯) handed over the official seal to Chen Shih-kai.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chen Shih-kai highlighted his familiarity with the ministry's operations, citing his experience accompanying Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on inspections and disaster assessments. He also reiterated three key expectations: respect for expertise, diligent learning, and earnest management.
Chen Shih-kai stressed that the ministry's professionalism stems from its 61,000 employees, not just the minister, all working to serve the people and the nation. Chen Chin-de praised Chen Shih-kai for his role as spokesperson for President Lai Ching-te's (賴清德) presidential campaign, where he contributed to policy planning.
Addressing concerns about his lack of a transportation background, Chen Shih-kai noted that previous transportation ministers also lacked specific transportation expertise. He explained that the ministry's broad scope requires diverse knowledge, and the essential skills for a minister are communication, coordination, and leadership.
The new minister's commitment to improvement and leadership marks a promising start for the Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
