TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced on Thursday (Aug. 29) that Executive Yuan spokesman Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) will succeed Lee Meng-Yen (李孟諺) as the new Minister of Transportation. Lee resigned recently amid allegations of a decade-long extramarital affair.

The Executive Yuan has approved Lee's resignation and appointed Deputy Minister of Transportation Chen Yen-po (陳彥伯) as the interim head of the ministry before today's announcement. It plans to announce the latest arrangements by the end of the week.

Chen, born in 1977, graduated from the Department of Political Science at Tunghai University (東海大學) and served as the spokesman for President Lai Ching-Te's (賴清德) 2024 campaign headquarters.

Chen has a robust background in local governance and policy. He previously worked as the chief of staff for Legislator Tsai Chi-chang (蔡其昌) and held the position of honorary vice chairman at the Food Safety of Taichung City (台中市食材安全促進協會). His extensive experience makes him a suitable candidate for the role.

Meanwhile, Executive Yuan deputy spokesperson Hsieh Tzu-han (謝子涵), who has held various positions, including policy advisor and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) spokesman, will temporarily fill the role of Executive Yuan spokesman.
