TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Krathon has caused significant power outages across Taiwan, affecting 109,588 households as of Thursday (Oct. 3) morning. Taiwan Power Company (台灣電力公司) reported an impressive restoration rate of over 82%, with 90,790 households already reconnected.
Pingtung County and Kaohsiung City remain the most affected, with 11,925 and 3,026 households still without power, respectively. Taipei City follows with 2,116 households awaiting reconnection.
Other affected areas include Yunlin County, with 422 households; Chiayi County, 410; and Taitung County, 393. Taiwan Power Company continues restoration efforts, adjusting strategies based on evolving weather conditions.
The typhoon's approach, expected to make landfall near Kaohsiung later this morning, has prompted the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) to issue warnings about strong winds and potential storm surges in southwestern coastal areas.
CWA has urged residents of Pingtung, Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Chiayi to prepare for potentially hazardous gusts and intense, short-duration rainfall.
