TAICHUNG (TVBS News) — Typhoon Krathon injured seven people in Taichung City as of Thursday (Oct. 3), according to the Fire Bureau of Taichung City Government (台中市消防局).
Most injuries occurred due to motorcycle accidents, with five individuals self-injuring while riding, one person injured by a car door due to strong winds, and another struck by debris. All have been treated and discharged from the hospital.
Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) emphasized that the typhoon's primary impact has been on the coastal areas of Taichung, where most injuries and power outages have been reported. She urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
The Transportation Bureau of Taichung City Government (台中市交通局) has adjusted the frequency of city buses and the Taichung Mass Rapid Transit (TMRT, 台中捷運) Green Line services according to the suspension of work and classes. The MRT will operate at 15-minute intervals, subject to changes based on travel conditions.
Meanwhile, the Taichung Taxi Bus (小黃公車) and Lishan Happy Bus (梨山幸福巴士) have ceased operations, and the public bicycle rental system is temporarily unavailable.
The Taichung City Police Department (臺中市政府警察局) advised against visiting mountainous areas, rivers, and coastal regions, having issued 81 warnings to 102 people by Thursday morning.
Huang Chia-mei (黃嘉美), director of the Taichung Weather Station (台中氣象站), noted that the typhoon is expected to make landfall in Kaohsiung by Thursday afternoon. Heavy rain is likely only in the mountainous areas of Taichung. Winds will begin to weaken by early Friday morning.
