TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署) warned on Tuesday (Oct. 1) that Typhoon Krathon could make landfall in southwestern Taiwan with destructive force. The storm's potential to bring 17-grade gusts has prompted urgent advisories for residents.

At 11 a.m., CWA reported Typhoon Krathon's center located approximately 230 kilometers south-southwest of Kaohsiung, moving north-northeast at 7 kilometers per hour. The storm is expected to make landfall in southwestern Taiwan on Wednesday.

The CWA indicated that the typhoon's storm circle has already impacted Hengchun Peninsula, Pingtung, Taitung, and Kaohsiung, posing a threat to areas south of Yunlin, Hualien, Taitung, and Penghu.

Wu Woan-Hwa (伍婉華), a senior engineer at CWA, remarked that Krathon's slow movement indicates complex influencing factors, with its northward turn and timing affecting the radius of the 10-grade storm winds and the landfall center.

Wu also noted that the typhoon is expected to leave by Thursday at a gradual rate. She emphasized that Krathon's landfall could bring disastrous gusts and short-term heavy rainfall, significantly impacting the Hualien, Taitung, and southern regions.
