TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Typhoon Karathon (山陀兒) threatens Taiwan as Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳) urged vulnerable areas to prepare on Monday (Sept. 30). Liu also requested local governments to facilitate early departure for tourists from outlying islands.
The Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued a typhoon land warning early Monday, predicting the storm will significantly impact Taiwan from Oct. 1 through the morning of Oct. 3.
Liu said she attended a briefing at the Central Emergency Operation Center (中央災害應變中心) following the 2:30 a.m. sea and land typhoon warning.
Speaking to reporters at the Legislative Yuan, Liu emphasized the potential for landslides, massive collapses, strong winds, and heavy rainfall and the need for mountainous regions to prepare in advance.
Liu also noted that transportation for tourists in outlying areas would be affected over the next two to three days and urged local governments to arrange early departures.
