TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan Railways Corporation (TRC) Chairman Du Wei (杜微) on Thursday (Sept. 26) clarified that his salary and procedures are consistent with all state-owned enterprises, denying claims that he gave himself a raise.
Recently, the Taiwan Railway Union accused Du of increasing his salary by 40% last month. They alleged that Du applied to the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC, 交通部) for a major merit award, citing his supervision of TRC's transformation and reform efforts.
The Transportation Committee of the Legislative Yuan invited Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) and Du to report on the implementation of TRA's corporatization, reward regulations, and passenger safety planning on Thursday.
Du emphasized during the meeting that TRC governance has various regulations, and the internal approval process for the award has not even been established. He noted that all rewards and penalties must undergo review by the company's appraisal committee.
Du promised that any future rewards and penalties related to this case would follow company procedures and principles, ensuring careful consideration.
