PENGHU (TVBS News) — The Penghu County (澎湖縣) magistrate emphasized on Wednesday (Sept. 25) the significant contributions of over 200 Filipino migrant workers in various industries across the county.
Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-fu (陳光復) highlighted the county government's commitment to protecting the rights of these workers during a meeting with Alice Q. Visperas (魏珮柔), deputy resident representative of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (馬尼拉經濟文化辦事處).
Chen expressed gratitude for the economic growth driven by these workers, noting the similarities between the Philippines and Penghu as island regions with scenic landscapes. Chen stated that the county government regards Filipino workers as part of Penghu and ensures they can work and live here safely.
Chen also mentioned that Penghu and the Philippines frequently face typhoons due to their location. To address this, the county government has established comprehensive disaster response measures to protect residents and migrant workers.
