TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced Thursday (July 4) that Taiwan's government plans to increase salaries for military, public, and teaching personnel next year, citing recent stable economic growth. Cho said the government has instructed the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration to commence the review process immediately.
Cho emphasized the government's responsibility to lead in promoting economic development and encouraged private enterprises to follow suit by raising wages to share economic achievements with employees.
Executive Yuan spokesperson Chen Shih-kai (陳世凱) relayed Cho's remarks during a press conference, noting that this year's economic growth rate is projected at 3.94%. Chen stated that in the Executive Yuan meeting, Cho said this results from everyone's collective effort.
During the meeting, Cho also directed the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration to convene relevant ministries and initiate the salary adjustment mechanism for next year.
Historical data from the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration shows that the last five salary adjustments for military, public, and teaching personnel included a 3% increase in 2005, 2011, and 2018 and a 4% increase in 2022 and 2024.
The forthcoming salary adjustments reflect the government's commitment to sharing economic benefits with its employees. As the review process begins, the public and private sectors are urged to consider similar measures to sustain Taiwan's economic momentum.
