TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) stated on Wednesday (Nov. 27) that the government will ensure Taiwanese athletes can participate in future international competitions under favorable and legal conditions. Premier Cho's remarks came after Lin Yu-ting's (林郁婷), Taiwanese Olympic gold medalist, withdrawal from the World Boxing (世界拳擊總會) year-end finals, set to commence Thursday in the United Kingdom.
Cho emphasized Lin's undeniable status as an Olympic women's boxing gold medalist, expressing regret over the withdrawal. He urged World Boxing, recognized by the International Olympic Committee, to establish comprehensive internal controls to protect athletes fairly. Despite evidence presented by the Sports Administration (體育署), World Boxing questioned Lin's eligibility, citing the medical committee's inability to make a timely decision. This led Lin's coach, Tseng Tzu-chiang (曾自強), to withdraw in protest.
Cho reiterated the government's commitment to safeguarding athletes' rights through the Sports Administration, associations, and legal channels.
