TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council (MAC, 陸委會) stated on Wednesday (Nov. 27) that the activities planned by the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation (馬英九基金會) to invite Chinese students to the country pose minimal national security concerns.
Speaking ahead of the legislative interpellation, Shen Yu-chung (沈有忠), MAC's deputy minister, noted that the council will approve applications that meet entry requirements, ensuring the exchange aligns with the proposed agenda.
Shen emphasized MAC's support for cross-strait exchanges, provided that applications comply with regulations. He further noted that the application content undergoes standard procedural review and expressed hope that the visiting group will adhere to the submitted itinerary.
His response came after media reports that raised concerns about the visit. They cited anonymous officials who questioned the backgrounds of Olympic gold medalists Ma Long (馬龍) and Yang Qian (楊倩), both alleged Chinese Communist Party members. These reports suggested potential political motives behind their planned visit to Taiwan.
