TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei (楊勇緯) shed tears during a sponsored event, "Team UA," on Tuesday (Aug. 27) after his coach, Liu Wen-deng (劉文等) delivered an emotional speech. Liu emphasized the importance of self-belief and reassured Yang with a heartfelt message.
Liu told Yang, "I will always be with you." Yang, visibly moved, admitted that his coach had never spoken to him in such a manner before, which overwhelmed him emotionally. He expressed gratitude for everyone who supported him throughout his journey and stated that he will learn from these experiences and advance to the next stage.
Yang recently reached the quarterfinals at the Olympics, but he fell short of a medal. However, he had previously earned Taiwan's first Olympic judo silver medal at Tokyo 2020.
The event also featured other Taiwanese Olympians, including weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun (郭婞淳) and boxer Chen Nien-chin (陳念琴).
