TAIPEI (TVBS News) — MediaTek introduced its latest traditional Chinese large language model (LLM), MediaTek Research BreeXe, on Tuesday (April 9), taking a significant step to cater to the increasing demand for generative AI products among Chinese-language users.
Speaking at a press event earlier that day, Dr. Da-shan Shiu from MediaTek Research Lab highlighted a crucial gap in the AI market. Despite the widespread use of AI, offerings for Taiwan’s users often miss the mark in quality and cultural relevance.
Shiu likened existing English-based models to a fluent Mandarin-speaking foreigner who doesn’t grasp Taiwanese culture. “The amount of training data covering local cultures, local phenomenons is actually quite small," Shiu said. MediaTek's response to this gap is a lineup of products designed to meet the specific needs of this market segment.
The company is setting a new direction with a platform that emphasizes customization. This move aims to transform productivity and creativity in various industries, signaling a shift towards more personalized AI applications.
