PINGTUNG (TVBS News) — The fishing vessel "Hung Hsing Yu" (CT2-5600) safely returned to Yanpu Fishing Port in Pingtung's Donggang at around 7:17 a.m. on Tuesday (April 9).

The ship had been detained at Singda Harbor Coast Guard Base in Kaohsiung in the early hours of Tuesday, following an investigation by the Coast Guard Administration (CGA). After finding no evidence of wrongdoing, the District Prosecutors Office permitted the vessel to leave.

The CGA launched an investigation after the "Hung Hsing Yu" was found in the Maobitou waters on April 8, having been missing for five days. Despite the coast guard horns and broadcast, none of the three crew members appeared, prompting an investigation into potentially illegal activities.

The "Hung Hsing Yu" had mysteriously disappeared from the VMS system, raising questions about why the crew did not use shortwave radio for help. The CGA is investigating these details, which have drawn significant public interest. The CGA has yet to provide a public explanation.

Preliminary findings suggest that a generator failure on board the ship led to a communication breakdown. The captain and two Indonesian crew members are all safe.
