TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Lai Ching-te, set to take office as Taiwan's president on May 20, announced his new cabinet appointments on Wednesday (April 10). 

Cho Jung-tai, former chairman of the Democratic Progressive Party and former cabinet secretary-general, will serve as premier. Cheng Li-chiun, former Minister of Culture and vice president of The General Association of Chinese Culture, has been appointed vice premier. 

 

Kung Ming-hsin, National Development Council Minister with extensive academic experience, will take on the role of secretary-general of the Executive Yuan. Chen Shih-kai, who served as spokesperson for Lai's campaign, will become the Executive Yuan spokesperson. 

Wellington Koo, secretary-general of the National Security Council with a rich background in law, has been appointed Minister of National Defense. Pan Men-an, former Pingtung County magistrate and Lai's campaign director in the 2024 election, will serve as secretary-general to the president. 

Joseph Wu, minister of Foreign Affairs and former secretary-general of the National Security Council from 2016 to 2017, will return to his role as secretary-general of the National Security Council. Tsai Ming-yen, who took over as head of the National Security Bureau in 2023 and has led several projects within the bureau, will retain his position.
