TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Heavy rainfall has led to potholes in various areas in Tainan City, particularly in the Anping District. A roughly one-meter-deep sinkhole also appeared on Chienping 7th Street in the Anping District around 11 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 8), affecting residents and a passing small passenger vehicle.
According to reports, the Tainan City Government Water Resources Bureau dispatched crews to address the issue and comprehensively review nearby roads.
The affected small passenger vehicle experienced a burst tire on its left front wheel while traversing Chienping 7th St. Thankfully, no one was injured.
Tainan City Councilor Lee Chi-wei, who expressed concern regarding the pothole incident, has urged the Water Resources Bureau to enhance road inspections to ensure public traffic safety.
The Water Resources Bureau responded that the sinkhole in Anping District is approximately two meters long, three meters wide, and one meter deep. Initial assessments point to a damaged underground pipeline as the cause.
Further repair work will be conducted, including detailed scrutiny of the nearby road sections to guarantee the public's safety.
