TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan is about to face Typhoon Doksuri, which will hit the island with significant force. Starting Wednesday (July 26), various areas will experience increasingly strong winds and rainfall.
People in the southeastern and southern regions should be wary of heavy rainfall, while those in the western areas should prepare for extreme heat as they are located on the leeward side.
The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) warns that due to Typhoon Doksuri and its outer circulation, many areas will experience short bursts of heavy rain on July 26, including Hualien County, Taitung County (including Orchid Island and Green Island), Yilan County, and Pingtung County's mountainous regions.
Furthermore, Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, Taichung, Nantou's mountainous areas, New Taipei City, Yilan, and Pingtung regions may experience localized heavy rain.
CWB suggests being cautious of thunder and strong gusts of wind, especially in mountainous regions, where landslides, falling rocks, and sudden river water level increases may occur. Low-lying areas should take measures to avoid flooding.
As of July 26th morning, Orchid Island has already recorded wave heights of 7 meters, and Taitung has seen waves of 5 meters. As the typhoon approaches, wave strength will continue to increase, making it unsafe to visit the seashore.
The CWB also advises people to protect themselves from the sun, particularly in the leeward western areas such as Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, and Kinmen, where temperatures may reach 38 degrees Celsius.
The trajectory of Typhoon Doksuri will determine whether schools and workplaces will be closed on July 27. Experts predict that the typhoon's eye may hit land as early as noon on Wednesday, and authorities are monitoring the situation to provide timely updates to the public.
