TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued heat advisories for several cities and counties on Wednesday (July 5). Pingtung County and Hualien County are under an orange alert, with a high probability of extreme temperatures reaching 38 degrees Celsius.

Taichung City, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Tainan City, and Kaohsiung City are also under an orange alert, with a likelihood of consecutive days of 36-degree heat. Residents are urged to take extra precautions.

The scorching heatwave will likely persist until next Tuesday (July 11), and people are advised to take necessary measures when going outdoors, such as applying sunscreen and staying hydrated. It is also recommended to avoid going out between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to minimize exposure to the intense heat.

The CWB also pointed out that strong southwest winds have resulted in foehn winds in Taitung County.
