TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Minister of the Ministry of Justice Tsai Ching-hsiang provided a comprehensive report on Thursday (May 25) at the Judiciary and Organic Laws Committee, Legislative Yuan, regarding the recent surge of emailed bomb threats targeting Taiwan.
Minister Tsai revealed that as of May 23, the Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) had investigated 258 cases related to these threats and reported 83 cases to the District Prosecutor's Office.
Up to 48 agencies across Taiwan, including the National Palace Museum, Yangmingshan National Park, Taroko National Park, National Taiwan Library, Hualien Farglory Ocean Park, and the National Museum of Marin Biology and Aquarium, were explicitly targeted by dozens of email bomb threats.
Also, government offices, public transportation systems, and schools have reported receiving similar threatening emails.
Amidst growing speculation, Minister Tsai addressed questions from reporters linking a Chinese national named Chang Hai-chuan, who had previously studied in Taiwan, to sending these threatening emails.
The minister confirmed that prosecutors are collaborating closely with the CIB and the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau to investigate the case thoroughly.
As authorities continue their efforts to uncover the perpetrators behind this wave of emailed bomb threats, the safety and security of Taiwan's public spaces remain a top priority for the government.
