TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As we welcome the new year, Taiwan businesses are celebrating a job well done with lively end-of-year banquets. Generous bonuses will be shared and plenty of food and drinks to toast all their accomplishments of the past year.
This year, a Singaporean company went all out and hosted a banquet celebrating its 15th anniversary with 2,600 tables, inviting 26,000 guests from Taiwan and overseas.
The company rented out a 7-hectare space to set up the event, where a huge stage for performers was featured as well as 200 drones provided by the Kaohsiung Tourism Bureau to display celebratory images and patterns in the night sky.
According to the company, planning was underway in September 2022, and after tallying the costs of the space, the tables, the food, and transportation and hotels for the guests, around US$32.8 million (NT$100 million) was spent.
Local businesses will also benefit from this event as the guests are sure to spend some time after the banquet. The Tourism Bureau under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) estimates that locals likely saw NT$50 million worth of profits.
