TAIPEI (TVBS News) — The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Australia has alerted Australian law enforcement agencies to assist in the hunt for a Taiwanese con artist.

Several Taiwanese citizens have fallen victim to the scam orchestrated in Australia, leaving them with approximately NT$20 million defrauded.

The office identifies the fraudster as a woman surnamed Yang, hailing from New Taipei City and now placed on the wanted list. Yang fled from Singapore to Australia in August 2021 and hid in various states, including Victoria, Queensland, and Tasmania.

The swindler previously defrauded Taiwanese workers in Australian meat processing factories using numerous aliases, including Nana, Sasa, Tia, Carina, and Ellie.

She falsely promised to assist them with gaining Permanent Residencies (PR) via "visa laundering," resulting in significant financial losses for dozens of Taiwanese citizens.

Recently, she has posed as an immigration consultant in LINE group chats and defrauded Taiwanese individuals using investment migration schemes.

Authorities urge the public to seek legal immigration channels and stay vigilant against the wanted Taiwanese scam artist.
