TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A tropical depression off the eastern coast of the Philippines has rapidly intensified into a mild typhoon named Guchol, marking the third typhoon of the year, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) reported Tuesday evening (June 6).

This morning, Typhoon Guchol was approximately 1,700 kilometers away from Taiwan. The CWB anticipates its northwesterly trajectory to shift northward, veering towards the southern waters of Japan at a distance of around 1,000 kilometers from Taiwan.

The development of convective weather is expected during the afternoon, bringing about the likelihood of brief thunderstorms in various regions. You are advised to carry rain gear when venturing outdoors as a precautionary measure.

Residents residing in mountainous areas are urged to exercise caution as sudden rises in river water levels may occur, while those in low-lying regions should remain vigilant about potential flooding.

In terms of temperature, the western regions of Taiwan may experience highs of 33 to 34 degrees Celsius. Notably, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Huadong Valley are projected to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius for three consecutive days.

To prevent heatstroke, staying hydrated while engaging in outdoor activities is crucial. Localized showers and thunderstorms are forecasted in Taiwan from Wednesday to Thursday (June 7-8).

While Typhoon Guchol does not pose an immediate threat to Taiwan, the CWB has cautioned about the potential occurrence of long swells along the eastern half of Taiwan and the coastal areas of the Hengchun Peninsula from Friday to Sunday.

If you are planning to visit seaside areas, you are advised to exercise caution and remain alert.
