TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As Typhoon Mawar approaches its closest proximity to Taiwan, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) urged residents to exercise caution amid expectations for heavy rainfalls and strong winds from Wednesday through Thursday morning.
While Mawar is gradually weakening and displaying signs of veering eastward, the sea warning was lifted at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday (May 31), according to CWB. However, despite the diminishing intensity, the outer wind circle will still result in intermittent showers for the northern and eastern regions.
As the typhoon continues its northward trajectory, the wind direction is projected to shift to the north, leading to increased rainfall in Yilan and the northern mountainous areas. On Thursday, localized heavy rain or torrential downpours are possible, particularly in the mountainous regions from Taoyuan to Taichung.
In central and southern Taiwan, mostly cloudy conditions with occasional sunshine are anticipated, and isolated brief thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon. Residents are advised to take precautions for sun protection and stay hydrated during outdoor activities.
Temperatures in northern Taiwan and Yilan will experience a slight drop, ranging from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius. Other areas can expect 32 to 34 degrees Celsius highs, with some parts of Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Kinmen reaching around 36 degrees Celsius.
Green Island Township and Orchid Island Township have already declared typhoon days off. In contrast, the probability of typhoon days off for other regions is extremely low, as Mawar is expected to veer away from Taiwan tomorrow afternoon.
Despite the weakening intensity of Typhoon Mawar, authorities emphasize the importance of remaining vigilant due to the unstable weather conditions prevailing in the region.
