TAIPEI (TVBS News) — As Typhoon Mawar looms closer, Taiwan braces for the potential impact of the powerful storm expected to shift northward from Sunday to Monday. The extent of its effects will be determined by the timing and trajectory of this crucial turn, according to Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

Currently, at its peak development, Typhoon Mawar exhibits an impressive intensity with a well-structured and clear eye, as noted by meteorological expert Wu De-rong. With a maximum surface wind speed of 58 meters per second, this formidable storm is the most powerful recorded in 2023 thus far.

Despite a decrease in moisture, leading to more stable weather conditions than previous days, brief showers may still occur in the eastern windward areas. Additionally, isolated thunderstorms could arise in the mountainous regions during the afternoon. Residents are advised to carry rain gear for any outdoor activities as a precautionary measure.

The outer wind circle of Typhoon Mawar is expected to begin affecting Taiwan on Saturday. Brief showers are anticipated in the eastern windward areas, while the western regions will experience mostly cloudy to sunny conditions. Coastal areas will witness stronger winds and larger waves, prompting caution for those planning seaside activities.

The critical factor influencing the impact of Typhoon Mawar on Taiwan lies in its northward shift, which is projected to occur between Sunday and Monday. An early and sharper turn would have a lesser impact, while a later shift could magnify its influence. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will continue to provide timely updates to the public.
