TAIPEI (TVBS News) — A recent study published in the "Journal of Contemporary China," conducted by scholars from Singapore and Shanghai, reveals that more than half of Mainland Chinese support using force to unify Taiwan.
According to the study, 55% of respondents expressed their endorsement of military action, 33% were opposed, and 12% remained uncertain. The survey also highlighted that 22% of participants agreed that unification was unnecessary, 71% opposed this viewpoint, and 7% expressed uncertainty.
Scholars analyzing the survey results emphasized that mainlanders are open to a more moderate approach in dealing with Taiwan. They urged Chinese authorities to align their policies with public sentiment to prevent internal conflicts from arising.
In response to the current international situation and the perceived threats posed by Chinese military exercises, two military drills were conducted in northern and southern Taiwan on Wednesday (May 24). The exercises aimed to enhance preparedness and strategize potential responses.
In the morning, three AAV-7 Amphibious Assault Vehicles were deployed from Newport-class tank landing ships and landed in the sea during the military exercises held at beaches in Yilan County.
This maneuver simulated landing paths that Chinese military forces could employ. The exercise provided valuable insights for Taiwan's military to adapt and adjust its defense strategies accordingly.
In Pintung County, the military deployed IDF fighter jets, Black Hawk helicopters, and various combat aircraft for a second Joint Operations Training Base Command on the same basis.
According to the Ministry of National Defense, these exercises demonstrate Taiwan's commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities and readiness amidst the prevailing regional tensions.
