TAOYUAN, Taiwan (TVBS News) — Former President Ma Ying-jeou returned to Taiwan on Friday (April 7) following a successful 12-day trip in China.

Speaking at the airport, Ma expressed his satisfaction with the trip, stating that he felt welcomed throughout his visit.

He also suggested that increased exchanges between students could benefit cross-strait relations.

Ma emphasized the importance of the younger generation, stating that "the youth are our future," and expanding exchanges at an early stage could minimize the risks of conflicts.

He also stressed that the so-called "1992 Consensus" had been "resurrected," adding that "with respect for one another, we can quickly resume exchanges and communication on the same political basis."

Ma added that such efforts are "in accordance with the interest of Taiwan citizens."

Before Ma's arrival, a small group of protesters called for him to "go back to China." However, supporters also gathered to welcome the former leader back to Taiwan.

Ma's itinerary was strategically planned to avoid any overlap with the return of President Tsai Ing-wen, who was scheduled to arrive in Taiwan later that day.
