NEW YORK (TVBS News) — President Tsai Ing-wen made the most of the last day of her stopover in New York by visiting a Taiwanese-run general store and meeting with Masterchef Junior champion Liya Chu on Thursday (March 30).
As she prepared to continue on her way to Guatemala, the Taiwanese president picked up some dried pineapple slices at the general store as a souvenir.
The presidential team was also treated to a traditional Taiwanese breakfast, where Tsai expressed surprise at being served a tasty "Youtiao," a deep-fried strip of wheat flour.
Later that day, Tsai also dropped in at the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, where Chu presented the president with an impressive Taiwan-shaped snack made of cold "fen-yuan."
The Taiwan leader will depart for Guatemala on Friday morning and arrive late the next day (March 31, local time).
