KAOHSIUNG (TVBS News) — The Kaohsiung Rope Rescue Team (KRRT) in Taiwan is gearing up for the GrimpDay —  an international technical rope rescue competition scheduled in May in France.

The KRRT is returning as defending champion after winning the prestigious title in 2019. The team was eagerly preparing for the event during training sessions held on Wednesday (March 29).

The KRRT, composed chiefly of firefighters from Kaohsiung, simulated the transportation of an injured individual from the second floor of a building to the ground floor during Wednesday's training.

Although the team members are familiar with most of the tasks that could be presented at the competition, they still expect challenges.

Speaking to the media, KRRT team captain Kung Chui-hsiang revealed that one of the most difficult parts of the competition is that teams will know the challenges they will face five minutes before they arrive at the scene.

Despite the uncertainty, the KRRT team members remain determined to do their best and defend their title on the global stage.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused the GrimpDay rope rescue competition to be postponed for three years. However, the KRRT is ready to participate and showcase its skills and expertise.

With their extensive training and experience, the team is confident they will perform exceptionally well and make Taiwan proud.
