TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Former Intel (英特爾) CEO Patrick Paul Gelsinger (季辛格) visited Taiwan Tuesday (Nov. 18) as Silicon Valley venture capital partner to strengthen supply chain ties. Gelsinger brought seven startups seeking deeper cooperation and expanded business opportunities.

Gelsinger plans industry dinner with Foxconn (鴻海) Chairman Liu Yang-wei (劉揚偉) to announce collaborations during Hon Hai Tech Day (HHTD 25, 鴻海科技日). The former Intel chief emphasized enhancing supply chain resilience and supporting U.S. government semiconductor capacity policies for global development.

Gelsinger identified Taiwan's energy supply as its most significant challenge for sustained economic growth. He predicted that Taiwan's semiconductor industry could reach NT$1 trillion (approximately US$32.3 billion) by 2030, underscoring its global technological significance.

Gelsinger addressed the AI sector, warning about an AI bubble while noting capital investment is not the main limitation. He said energy growth is vital to support industry development and prevent overheated investments. Playground Global partner Peter Barrett highlighted AI capital expenditure inefficiencies but views them as a foundation for future growth.

Gelsinger reassured that Section 232 and tariff concerns will not hinder semiconductor industry growth, suggesting potential policy adjustments in the next decade. His insights emphasize energy and policy importance in shaping the future of technology and industry. ◼
