TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Shu-Chuan (李四川) confirmed Wednesday (Aug. 27) that city authorities are closely monitoring NVIDIA's Taiwan headquarters project through weekly video conferences with the tech giant. Officials aim to finalize critical decisions regarding the ambitious development by the end of September. The intensive collaboration underscores Taipei's strategic commitment to supporting major technology industry investments and maintaining Taiwan's position as a global tech hub.

Deputy Mayor Lee acknowledged potential challenges plaguing Taiwan's construction sector, including persistent labor shortages and material supply constraints. He emphasized that high-tech companies typically recruit elite construction teams backed by substantial financial investments to accelerate project timelines. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang (黃仁勳) hopes to begin construction in May and complete the headquarters within three years, while Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) has pledged the city's full administrative support for the landmark project.

Mayor Chiang emphasized the importance of maintaining close communication channels with NVIDIA executives, reinforcing Taipei's unwavering dedication to the headquarters project. The ongoing collaboration exemplifies the city's broader strategy to foster a robust ecosystem for technological innovation and cutting-edge development initiatives. Industry stakeholders and government officials anticipate significant updates as the crucial September decision deadline rapidly approaches.

Shin Kong Life Insurance Co., Ltd. (新光人壽) currently holds the land rights for Beitou-Shilin Technology Park (北士科) parcels T17 and T18, having signed a memorandum of understanding with NVIDIA. The insurance company plans to transfer the strategic property to the semiconductor giant. This arrangement represents a significant real estate transaction that will reinforce NVIDIA's physical presence in Taiwan's technology corridor. ◼
