TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) plans to announce Wednesday (Aug. 27) a sweeping Cabinet reshuffle following the Executive Yuan, Taiwan's cabinet, meeting. The historic reorganization will see Lee Yang (李洋), a two-time Olympic badminton gold medalist, become the inaugural minister of the newly established Ministry of Sports (運動部). The groundbreaking sports ministry will officially open its doors Sept. 9, marking a significant milestone in Taiwan's administrative structure.
Cheng Shih-chung (鄭世忠), current director of the Sports Administration, and Huang Chi-huang (黃啟煌), CEO of the National Sports Science Center (NSTC, 國家運動科學中心), will serve as deputy ministers under Lee. Former professional baseball player Chen Yi-hsin (陳義信) will assume the deputy chairman role at the Council of Indigenous Peoples (CIP, 原民會). Premier Cho revealed during a Legislative Yuan, Taiwan's parliament, session that the comprehensive reshuffle will affect more than five top officials across multiple government agencies.
Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫), secretary-general of the Executive Yuan, will return as minister of economic affairs in this major government reorganization. Chang Tun-han (張惇涵), deputy secretary-general of the Office of the President (總統府), will succeed him as secretary-general and spokesperson. Lin Yi-jing (林宜敬), current deputy minister of the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA, 數發部), is expected to receive a promotion, while Yeh Chun-hsien (葉俊顯), former president of the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER, 中經院), will become chairman of the National Development Council (NDC, 國發會).
Shih Chung-liang (石崇良), director-general of the National Health Insurance Administration (NHI, 健保署), will be promoted to minister of health and welfare. Juan Chao-hsiung (阮昭雄), former deputy minister of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC, 僑委會), will assume the position of deputy secretary-general of the Executive Yuan. These extensive personnel changes signal a strategic shift in Taiwan's governance structure, with renewed focus on sports development, healthcare administration, and economic growth initiatives. ◼
