TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) announced Tuesday (Aug. 26) that the Executive Yuan, Taiwan's cabinet, is willing to adjust its interaction with the Legislative Yuan, Taiwan's parliament. The move, prompted by President Lai Ching-te (賴清德), aims to facilitate communication and coordination on supplementary, special, and budgetary matters for the next fiscal year. Cho emphasized the government's commitment to resolving legislative tensions ahead of crucial budget negotiations.
Cho stressed the importance of understanding constitutional order, the functions of constitutional interpretation, and provisional measures for effective dialogue between government branches. He noted that resolving this year's legislative problems now would allow negotiations for next year's central government budget to return to normal procedures and standard protocols. The premier indicated that if there are no violations of constitutional interpretation, the government will address the ordinance accordingly and move forward with legislative cooperation.
During a legislative inquiry, Democratic Progressive Party (DPP, 民進黨) legislator Rosalia Wu (吳思瑤) highlighted the impact of opposition budget cuts on the Ministry of Culture (文化部). Wu also mentioned the Special Resilience Ordinance draft amendment, which includes NT$20 billion (around US$656 million) to enhance grid resilience nationwide. Cho has instructed Taipower, Taiwan's state power company, to assess nationwide underground cabling and select feasible areas for implementation, assuring that passing the budget would expedite underground cabling projects. ◼
