TAIPEI (TVBS News) — EVA Air (長榮航空) celebrated a decade of its Taoyuan-Houston route with a press conference at the Houston Zoo on Thursday (June 26). The airline has expanded its flights from three to seven per week, maintaining a passenger load factor of 90%. Houston's deputy mayor, Martha Castex-Tatum, awarded the airline's general manager a proclamation, recognizing its impact on local trade and tourism.
Houston First President Michael Heckman expressed gratitude for EVA Air's contributions, noting that tourists visiting Houston surpassed 2.6 million in 2023. In a show of appreciation, the city declared June 26 "EVA Air Day in Houston," highlighting the airline's role in boosting economic and tourism sectors.
Director-general Yvonne Hsiao (蕭伊芳) from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston emphasized the rapid growth in trade between Taiwan and Houston. She stated that trade figures rose from approximately US$1.1 billion in 2015 to US$11.1 billion last year, underscoring the strengthening economic ties.
To further celebrate the 64th anniversary of Houston's sister city relationship with Taipei, EVA Air and the Taipei City Government launched a special tourism promotion, "Taipei Your Next Adventure," inviting Houstonians to explore Taipei's unique charm.
