TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan braces for erratic weather patterns throughout the weekend as meteorologists predict intermittent rainfall alongside persistently high temperatures, according to a Friday (April 18) announcement from the Central Weather Administration (CWA, 氣象署), Taiwan's national meteorological agency. Weather specialists cautioned that an approaching weather front will primarily impact the island's northern territories with sporadic precipitation, while the remainder of the country will experience partially cloudy to clear conditions, though afternoon thunderstorms remain possible in various regions.
CWA forecaster Huang En-hung (黃恩鴻) predicted that Taiwan will endure sweltering, humid conditions through early next week. Intensifying southwesterly winds will reduce atmospheric moisture between Monday and Tuesday, resulting in predominantly clear to partly cloudy conditions nationwide. Huang warned residents to prepare for the week's peak temperatures, which will range from 31 to 33 degrees Celsius (87.8 to 91.4°F), with certain localities possibly reaching above 36 degrees Celsius (96.8°F).
A significant weather transition will occur Tuesday evening when the front moves across the island, triggering isolated downpours and thunderstorm activity. Huang stressed the importance of remaining alert to the possibility of brief but intense rainfall episodes resulting from the highly organized frontal system. Following this system, an intensifying northeastern monsoon will introduce considerably cooler conditions, with maximum temperatures in northern Taiwan falling to between 22-24 degrees Celsius (71.6-75.2°F) and minimum temperatures reaching approximately 18 degrees Celsius (64.4°F) by Wednesday.
Increasing atmospheric humidity from Thursday through Friday next week will bring scattered precipitation to northern and central regions, the eastern portion of the island, and the Hengchun Peninsula, Taiwan's southernmost area. Meteorologists predict elevated rainfall probabilities throughout the entire country during this period. The cooler temperature regime will persist across Taiwan until after April 27, when forecasters expect thermal conditions to gradually increase once again. ★
