TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's weather patterns are set to shift dramatically as meteorologists forecast the northeast monsoon's weakening on Wednesday (April 16), bringing a change from southeasterly to warmer southerly winds. Daytime temperatures across the island will climb above 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), while inland areas of southern Taiwan could swelter under temperatures approaching 35°C (95°F), creating notable temperature fluctuations between daylight and evening hours.
Lin Ting-yi (林定宜), a forecaster with Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署), the island's national meteorological agency, predicted reduced moisture levels over the next two days. The meteorologist noted that precipitation will be limited to occasional light showers in eastern areas and the Hengchun Peninsula, Taiwan's southernmost region. Health officials have issued advisories about elevated ultraviolet radiation levels, recommending residents apply sunscreen and maintain proper hydration as stable weather conditions prevail.
Thursday's forecast shows continuing summer-like heat across the island, with only minimal changes to the weather pattern. Meteorologists predict a slight increase in cloud formation that could generate brief, isolated showers in Taiwan's eastern coastal areas, while the remainder of the island will enjoy predominantly clear or partly cloudy skies. Lin warned that weather stability will begin deteriorating Friday as a weather front approaches Taiwan's northern waters, bringing heightened humidity and less predictable conditions.
The approaching weather system will linger over waters north of Taiwan throughout the weekend as moisture from southern China continues its eastward migration across the Taiwan Strait. Meteorologists expect the front to traverse the island by Sunday, delivering scattered precipitation to northern and northeastern regions, as well as mountainous areas in the south. Weather officials advise residents to remain alert to changing conditions and follow updated forecasts as the weekend weather pattern evolves. ★
