TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA, 中央氣象署) issued a heavy rain advisory for four counties on Tuesday (April 1) as a mass of northeasterly winds pushed a rain system eastward from South China, drenching parts of the island. Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩), speaking at the agency's morning briefing, offered a mixed forecast for the upcoming Tomb-Sweeping holiday, noting that the first two days should bring favorable conditions across most of Taiwan, while the latter half will see scattered precipitation in the north, northeast, east, and the southern Hengchun Peninsula.
The CWA reported that the continental cold air mass combined with the eastward-moving rain system will create persistently wet and cold conditions throughout the day in northern, northeastern, and eastern regions. Other parts of the island will experience chilly mornings and evenings with milder afternoons. Temperatures in the north and northeast are expected to hover between 12 to 14 degrees Celsius (53.6 to 57.2°F) during the morning hours, reaching daytime highs of only 15-16 degrees Celsius (59 to 60.8°F). Meanwhile, southern Taiwan and Taitung will enjoy considerably warmer conditions with highs ranging from 23 to 27 degrees Celsius (73.4 to 80.6°F).
Lin noted that during the first two days of the holiday, temperatures will gradually climb as the northeast monsoon loses strength, potentially reaching 30 degrees Celsius (86°F) in southern regions, offering ideal conditions for traditional tomb-sweeping activities. However, the meteorologist cautioned that the latter half of the holiday period could bring increased atmospheric moisture and chances of brief but potentially disruptive showers across the north, northeast, east, and Hengchun Peninsula, while central and southern regions should remain mostly cloudy to clear with minimal precipitation.
